BEMÆRK: Ansøgningsfristen er overskredet

A 2-year postdoc position is now available at the Department of Geophysics and Sedimentary Basins in the Geological Survey of Denmark and Greenland (GEUS). The position will be within geophysical mapping, geological evolution, and CCS potential of deep pre-Zechstein Danish structures with an emphasis on developing the understanding of the Late Paleozoic rift-system, Caledonian North Sea structures and its implications for Upper Paleozoic stratigraphy and depositional systems.

Job description

Geological structures onshore and offshore Denmark are currently investigated as potential sites for geological storage of CO2 including seismic acquisition and mapping. The largest identified structures are cored by pre-Zechstein strata, but the nature and reservoir potential of the pre-Zechstein remains uncertain. In this postdoc position, you must map the sedimentary basins between the top of the pre-Zechstein and the top of the basement including structures and sedimentary facies in areas permitted by available seismic and well data.

The potential reservoirs are expected to include aeolian and fluvial sandstones, and interbedded and underlying volcanic beds, arkosic sandstones and conglomerates which are important as they contain labile minerals that may promote relatively fast precipitation of stored CO2 into solid state minerals. Therefore, this position includes working with attribute analysis of seismic data, and moreover you must show an interest in the full development and origin of the area.

Your qualifications

The candidate should have demonstrated solid research skills within structural, depositional, and seismic analysis of sedimentary basins through Ph.D. work and publications with international outreach. Furthermore, the candidate should be able to demonstrate an ability to integrate large and highly diverse datasets into geological models. At GEUS we use Petrel for the most common interpretation tool, and therefore the candidate must have experience with Petrel. Important qualification is also good personal and social competences to work together with other colleagues in different disciplines and to form a part of the dynamic and social department.

We work collaboratively, which requires efficient teamwork and good communication skills. The candidate must be fluent in English (spoken and written), and knowledge of Danish will be an advantage.

Department of Geophysics and Sedimentary Basins

The department’s main responsibilities are geological and geophysical tasks concerning energy resources, nature, and the environment. Its activities include participation in national and international research projects, mapping, and research in collaboration with the Danish and Greenlandic authorities in relation to externally funded research and consulting tasks, mainly concerning CCS, geothermal energy, and energy storage.

The 26 specialised and dedicated people in the department participate in interdisciplinary consulting and research projects with universities and other research institutions. They do research and consulting within a broad range of geophysical and geological topics related to the deep subsurface, using advanced modelling and mapping tools, for example basin modelling and mapping of geological structures.

We offer

  • A creative and interdisciplinary research environment
  • A lively and informal working environment with talented and dedicated colleagues
  • Versatile work duties and good opportunities to influence them
  • Development opportunities with access to courses and other further education
  • Family friendly workplace with flexible hours
  • An active social environment, with a staff association and art society
  • Fitness centre with physiotherapy at the workplace
Salary and conditions of employment

In accordance with the collective agreements between the Danish Ministry of Finance and the relevant eligible trade union.

The appointment area is the Danish Ministry of Climate, Energy and Utilities and its institutions.

The Danish Ministry of Climate, Energy and Utilities considers diversity to be an asset and invites anybody interested, regardless of gender, age, religion or ethnicity to apply for the position.
