The University seeks to appoint an Associate Professor of Comparative Analysis to the Department of Public Health, University of Copenhagen, to commence as soon as possible. The position will belong to our Section of Epidemiology. More information can be found here: http://publichealth.ku.dk/.

Job description
We are seeking a researcher with extensive experience in genomic evolutionary analysis and simulation of massive data sets from a broad diversity of pathogen and host systems. The ideal candidate will additionally bridge several fields in bioinformatics, machine learning, genomics, and comparative analysis, and be highly proficient in grant writing. The successful candidate must have extensive understanding of modelling in their field, and a range of grant application ideas for developing novel approaches that bridge multiple fields of research. The candidate must be ambitious and aim to address pressing questions in evolutionary genomics and public health. Additionally, they must have experience in student supervision, grant writing, and teaching. The responsibilities will primarily consist of:

  • Initiating an independent line of research within in epidemiology at an international competitive level;
  • Academic and public dissemination of the results;
  • Acquisition of competitive funding;
  • Providing research-based teaching at a pre- and post-doctorate level;
  • Research leadership, including guidance and supervision of researchers;
  • Engaging in the university’s internal and external academic activities;
  • Obligation to share knowledge with the rest of society, including participation in public debate;
  • Academic assessments.
Required qualifications

Six overall criteria apply for associate professor appointments at the University of Copenhagen. The six criteria (research, teaching, societal impact, organisational contribution, external funding and leadership) are considered a framework for the overall assessment of candidates. Furthermore, each applicant must be able to document:

  • Research qualifications at the level that can be achieved by satisfactorily completing a period of employment as an assistant professor/postdoc, but may also be obtained in other ways;
  • Teaching qualifications and pedagogical competencies;
  • Research-based teaching in Epidemiology;
  • Communicative skills in writing and speaking;
  • Research experience within Epidemiology or Data Science with a specific focus on health equity;
  • Collaborative and communicative skills.
The Associate Professor must have the ambition and willingness to compete at an internationally level to make impact.

Terms of employment
The position is a fixed time position (4 years).

The average weekly working hours are 37 hours per week.

Salary and other terms and conditions of appointment are set in accordance with the Agreement between the Ministry of Finance and AC (Danish Confederation of Professional Associations) or other relevant professional organisations.

The position is covered by the Job Structure for Academic Staff at Universities 2020.

Application procedure
After the expiry of the deadline for applications, the authorized recruitment manager selects applicants for assessment on the advice of the Appointments Committee. All applicants are then immediately notified whether their application has been passed for assessment. The Dean then appoints an expert assessment committee in order to make an assessment of the selected applicants for the specific post. Selected applicants are notified of the composition of the committee and each applicant has the opportunity to comment on the part of the assessment that relates to the applicant him/herself.
