We are looking for a research scientist with strong competences in data analysis, databases and preferably epidemiological skills in our antimicrobial resistance team to strengthen the AMR surveillance in Denmark and our international research.
About the Department of Bacteria, Parasites & Fungi
Statens Serum Institut is the national reference and surveillance institution for bacterial and viral infections as well as a central reference institution for both fungal and parasitic infections.
The Section for Antimicrobial Resistance is responsible for surveillance and research of clinical important resistant bacteria, MRSA, ESBL-producing Gram- negative rods, CPO and VRE. The annual published DANMAP report describes the results of this surveillance and contains detailed analysis of antimicrobial usage and resistance in humans.
About the position
We are looking for an enthusiastic colleague to work with us on enhancing the surveillance of antimicrobial consumption and resistance and to contribute to the production of the DANMAP report. You will be part of the DANMAP team and responsible for managing raw data and aggregation of these in relation to surveillance of antimicrobial consumption and resistance. You will be responsible for organizing and presenting data logically and to perform statistical and epidemiological analyses together with the team. The detailed knowledge about the data will also enable you to explore further details that may improve the surveillance and raise new research questions. The DANMAP team consist of three colleagues at SSI who work together with DTU colleagues on the DANMAP report as well as other national and international collaborators in surveillance and research projects.
Your education, experience and personal qualifications
You hold a Master’s or Ph.D. degree in a human health education, biology, biotechnology, etc. You have documented experience with data handling as well as statistical and/or epidemiological methods and is an experienced user of R, Python and SQL. Additionally, experience with microbiology, bioinformatics, antimicrobial resistance and surveillance programs is crucial. Knowledge of the Danish healthcare-system and the registries involved (particularly MiBa and LPR) is preferred.
You are an enthusiastic, innovative and open-minded person with a strong interest in combining antimicrobial resistance and consumption data with other measures to advance our surveillance and ultimately to tackle the threat of increasing antimicrobial resistance.
You have excellent cooperation and communication skills and feel confident in presenting complex subject matters to experts and laymen alike and are able to apply theory to practice.
You speak and write English. Danish is also preferred.
You are able to work in a team that serves many stakeholders across the healthcare and veterinary sector, academia, government and supranational agencies and to be involved in multiple projects at the same time, driving innovation and building fruitful relationships with internal and external partners along the way.

Terms of employment
The position is covered by the terms of the collective agreement between the Danish Ministry of Taxation and the Danish Federation of Professional Associations (AC) (overenskomst for akademikere i staten).
The position is running for 24 months, with the possibility of an extension.
