The University seeks to appoint an associate professor to the Department of Odontology to commence 1 January 2024 or as soon as possible. The position is permanent and a full-time position.
About the department
We aim to promote health in the population by optimizing diagnostics, prevention and treatment of diseases in the oral and craniofacial areas. Our purpose includes research-based and -integrating teaching to ensure that basic, translational, and clinical research reaches clinical practice.
We focus on interdisciplinary research across our three research sections and collaborate with national and international institutions, municipalities, regional hospitals, private practice, and businesses in the medical field to solve complex challenges regarding interactions between oral and medical diseases. The main body of staff at the Department of Odontology is financed by public funding.
The job relates to public health dentistry, which is positioned in the Research Section of Oral Health, Society and Technology.

Job description
As an associate professor at the Department of Odontology your main emphasis will be on performing original and innovative scientific work at an international level and contribute with high quality researched-based and -integrating teaching to our pre-graduate curriculum. Other tasks include academic assessments and examination of bachelor’s and master’s degree students, as well as PhD students.
The job concerns the area of oral pathology and medicine, where we approach oral health focusing on the diagnosis, non-surgical treatment and prevention of diseases and conditions of the oral mucosa, salivary glands, and jaw bones, including causes of salivary gland dysfunction, adverse events of medical treatments and xenobiotics. We expect a general view at oral health care with focusing on interdisciplinary collaborations. As an associate professor, you will be expected to make a difference for both patients and on a societal level. As an associate professor, you will undertake research projects with relevance for the many different stakeholders including patients, practitioners, and decision makers. Furthermore, you will have to develop and conduct teaching primarily within oral pathology and medicine using evidence-based medicine as the framework. Furthermore, course management will be required in one or more subject within the pre-graduate curriculum of odontology.
The associate professor’s responsibilities will primarily consist of:
- Original research, including publication in international peer-reviewed journals /academic dissemination
- Research leadership, including guidance and supervision of pre-graduate research students, PhD students and postdocs
- Actively applying for external funding as principal investigator
- Research-based and -integrating teaching, including associated examination and course management
- Supervision of bachelor projects and master theses
- Obligation to share knowledge with the rest of society, including participation in public debate
- Academic assessments
- Administrative functions
- Contribution to a positive working and educational environment

The associate professor is expected to be fluent in oral and written English, and international applicants are expected to learn Danish and to speak/understand the language at a sufficient level within a reasonable period. All patient records must be kept in Danish, and Danish is the official language of instruction in the Graduate Programme in Dentistry.
Terms of employment
The position is a permanent position. The average weekly working hours are 37 hours per week.
Salary and other terms and conditions of appointment are set in accordance with the Agreement between the Ministry of Taxation and AC (Danish Confederation of Professional Associations) or other relevant professional organisations.
The position is covered by the Job Structure for Academic Staff at Universities 2020.
